For several years during my morning devotions, I have been praying the Prayer of Jabez (1 Chron 4:10) – you know, expanding my territory. During recent months my prayer seemed to be going unanswered and it had become shallow. So I asked the Lord, "Why?" Being the “out-of-the-box” God that He is, He showed me that He HAD been expanding my territory, only I was blind to see it.
Some time ago I had my first visit to Prison Fellowship Ministries, begun by Chuck Colson. As I was waiting in the lobby and looking around at the facility, I thought to myself, “Really nice place, great work they are doing ministering to prisoners, but I don’t know anyone in prison so I’ll most likely not have any interaction with those incarcerated.”
Then last year a friend of mine stumbled and found himself in the Delaware state prison system. I began corresponding with him and have visited him on one occasion. He has introduced me to other Christian prisoners with whom I am also corresponding. Concurrently, another friend of mine relocated to South Carolina and has become involved in prison ministry. He has me sending books to prisoners in medium security as well as several on death row.
Recently I received a letter from my friend in Delaware. The second sentence of his letter said, “Dave, you won’t believe how the Lord is expanding your territory!” The Lord has answered my question in a way that I would have never envisioned. My territory certainly has been expanded!
Is something on your heart?
Six intercessors will pray for your request for 21 days.
