Diane had just picked up her four-year-old son, Thomas, at his Christian pre-school and was waiting for the traffic to clear before merging onto the main highway. Looking into the rear view mirror, she asked, “How was school today, Thomas?”
“We learned about Jesus and how the people killed him and put Him in a tomb. Then the men rolled a big stone in front of the tomb. The soldiers came and the stone was moved and Jesus was risen,” Thomas replied.
“Well, it sounds like you learned about Easter today,” Diane said.
“Mommy, when I die will I be risen?” Thomas asked.
“Thomas, Jesus was God’s Son and He was raised in a different way than we will be. When we die, Jesus will raise us in heaven to be with Him,” Diane explained.
Several minutes went by without an answer from the back seat. Diane stopped at a red light and looked in the rear view mirror again, straining to hear what her young son was saying.
“Dear Jesus, when I die, will you please risen me? Thank you. I love you. Bye,” Thomas whispered his prayer.
Our prayers need not be lengthy or filled with complicated words. The simplicity of a child’s prayer is just as powerful.
