It had been a little over three years since my husband had gone to be with the Lord. I still missed him greatly—we had not only been husband and wife, but best friends.
I missed our conversations about what the Lord was doing in our lives and how the Lord dropped things into our spirits about the future. I missed the beautiful cards and flowers he gave me on our anniversaries.
One day I asked the Lord, “Will I ever receive flowers again? You are supposed to be my husband now but You can’t give me flowers.” The Lord didn’t answer me that day.
A few weeks later, I saw something that astonished me. My morning routine is to feed my cat and then pull back the curtain covering my patio door just a little so I can feed the birds. Then I make my breakfast and sit on the sofa in front of that small opening in the curtain so I can watch the different birds come and eat while I have my quiet time with the Lord.
On this warm fall morning, I saw a green stem coming up between one of the steps that lead to my patio. When I looked closer to see if it was a weed or something else, I discovered that it seemed to be a sunflower. It was growing in the dirt in the crack between the bottom step and the patio. I decided to let it grow a few more days and make sure it was a sunflower, as it intrigued me. A few days later it was obvious that a sunflower bud was developing.
A few more days passed and the bud began to bloom. The sunflower fully bloomed and lasted a couple weeks until the first frost hit. What’s more, the sunflower bloomed right in the center of that little space I could see when I opened my patio door curtain.
Who says the Lord is not concerned with the smallest desires of our hearts? Psalm 37:4 declares, “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (KJV)
What are the desires of your heart today? He cares for you too!
Is something on your heart?
Six intercessors will pray for your request for 21 days.
