A Cellblock Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, it was dark in my cell,
Nothing did glisten, except my hair gel.
My Bunkie was sleeping; he hasn’t a care,
His life was in shambles, in total despair.

It’s been a whole hour since we knelt to pray,
Our study group is growing, much bigger each day.
There’s Roy and Big Bird, there’s Johnny and Bones,
And there’s Ronnie who looks like Tommy Lee Jones.

Let’s not forget Parker, who’s there on demand,
And last but not least, there’s Mike from Ireland.
We assemble together, we pray as a group,
We study some scriptures, and they fly the coop.

My Bible’s still open, laid out on my bed,
Giving me visions that dance in my head.
I’m dreaming of freedom with my kids and my wife,
We have a great time enjoying our life.

We’re dancing and playing, expressing our love,
Such visions of grandeur are sent from above.
For God seems to tell me in His Word when I’m down,
That He’s patient and willing to turn things around.

He often reminds me He’s in full control,
My part is to surrender and give Him my all.
So back on my knees, in this very dark hour,
I ask God for strength, for His love, and His power.

Then all of a sudden, I’m filled with His light,
There’s love, joy, and peace; it’s shining real bright.
I awaken my Bunkie to share the good news,
For he’s asked for help in shaking the blues.

I tell him that Jesus was born on this day,
He came down from Heaven to show us the Way.
See God is so holy, that we can’t approach
But He wants us dearly, so He sent us a coach.

Our life’s like a team, either white or black,
There’s nothing we can do to cut ourselves slack.
See sin’s growing freely, drawing us to the mire,
Our natural leader’s fierce; he’s a thief and a liar.

This new coach is a Savior; He paid for our sin,
He gave us our freedom, a new life to begin.
Although he had read this and believed it was true,
He confessed that he never felt born anew.

So back on our knees, after I said my part,
My Bunkie asked Jesus to enter his heart.
My Christmas story’s simple, no mice and no ladder,
These things make us smile, but they really don’t matter.

It’s not about snow, or a sparkling tree,
It’s all about Jesus setting us free.
So I’m here in my room before Christmas Day,
Big smile on my face, where it will stay.

Only one more thing I have for your year,
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

How to get to heaven

Do you know what it means to be a Christian?

The Bible says:

1. God created you to have a relationship with Him. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him. (Genesis 1:27)

2. But because of sin, you have infinitely offended God. For all have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard. (Romans 3:23)

3. This offense of sin carries with it a present separation and, if not dealt with, the ultimate separation of death. But your iniquities have separated you from your God. (Isaiah 59:2) For the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)

4. But God, in His great love for you, took the initiative to restore your relationship with him. But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

5. Jesus, God’s Son, removed the offense of your sin and made reconciliation possible. For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

6. OUR PART is to accept God’s gracious gift of forgiveness by embracing His Son Jesus Christ, by faith. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12)

One way to express your faith and your trust in Jesus is with a prayer like this:

Dear God, I want to be in a right relationship with You. I understand that I have offended You by my sin. God, please forgive me. Forgive me through Your Son, Jesus. I accept His sacrifice for me. I trust Him right now as my personal Savior from sin. God, thank you for taking the initiative to save me. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
