Resurrection Meditations

Jesus, Our Pascal Sacrifice

God’s Word to Me

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. - 1 Corinthians 1:27, RSV
Purge, (clean out) the old leaven that you may be fresh (new) dough, still uncontaminated (as you are), for Christ,
our Passover [lamb], has been sacrificed. - 1 Corinthians 5:7, AMP

Prayer Meditation
For the Isrealites across long centuries, a helpless lamb was commanded by God to be their sacrifice for sin. And so, in the fullness of time, a baby, lying in the crook of a woman’s arm, was in reality God tabernacling with men through that tiny body. He, the Child, as helpless as the lamb, would become our paschal sacrifice in order to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Gethsemane

God’s Word to Me
He [Jesus] said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.” And when He returned He found them asleep again…and they did not know what to answer Him. - Mark 14:34, 40, NKJV
He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. - Isaiah 53:3, NKJV

Prayer Meditation
Jesus, how often I have failed here. Because I could think of nothing to say in prayer, I have allowed my tired flesh to rule – sleeping instead of watching and waiting for You to speak to me. Strengthen my spirit, Lord, to rule my flesh.

The Resurrection

God’s Word to Me
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” - John 11:25 – 26, NKJV
Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise, you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:9 – 11, NKJV

Prayer Meditation
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia! Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia! Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia! Christ has burst the gates of Hell, Alleluia! ~ Charles Wesley

Thank you, Lord, for the magnificent promise that through our belief in You, we too will have a resurrection experience and life eternal. Do I fully understand the significance of this?

New Life

God’s Word to Me
Sing to God, sing praises to His name; cast up a highway for Him who rides through the deserts; His name is the Lord, be in high spirits and glory before Him! - Psalm 68:4, AMP

Prayer Meditation
It’s spring, Lord. The earth is very beautiful, and my heart is singing. This morning I saw Your handiwork in the beauty of masses of rhododendron. What consummate artistry! I heard Your voice in child’s bubbling laughter. I felt Your tender compassion as a baby robin fell out of the nest and had to be rescued.

Thank You for the eyes to appreciate the beauty You have made, for a spirit to stand on tiptoe and worship you.

How to get to heaven

Do you know what it means to be a Christian?

The Bible says:

1. God created you to have a relationship with Him. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him. (Genesis 1:27)

2. But because of sin, you have infinitely offended God. For all have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard. (Romans 3:23)

3. This offense of sin carries with it a present separation and, if not dealt with, the ultimate separation of death. But your iniquities have separated you from your God. (Isaiah 59:2) For the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)

4. But God, in His great love for you, took the initiative to restore your relationship with him. But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

5. Jesus, God’s Son, removed the offense of your sin and made reconciliation possible. For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

6. OUR PART is to accept God’s gracious gift of forgiveness by embracing His Son Jesus Christ, by faith. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12)

One way to express your faith and your trust in Jesus is with a prayer like this:

Dear God, I want to be in a right relationship with You. I understand that I have offended You by my sin. God, please forgive me. Forgive me through Your Son, Jesus. I accept His sacrifice for me. I trust Him right now as my personal Savior from sin. God, thank you for taking the initiative to save me. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
