I’ve had migraines most of my life, getting my first one sometime in middle school. But more recently, I began to have headaches in the back of my head, occurring on one side or the other. My usual pain killers weren’t helping. The migraines have always hurt in one or both temples, so these were different. I made plans to do a TV fast, allowing myself very limited viewing and an occasional movie while praying God would remove the pain that started about two months ago. There was no audible voice; but in my spirit, I felt that God would heal me.
On a typical evening in June before I began the fast, my five-year-old daughter, Hannah, approached me while I was eating dinner. She asked how I was feeling. Then she said, “Mommy, God is healing your headaches.” I never mentioned anything to her about my prayer nor did I speak to her about the problem that day. Was God telling me He was going to remove my suffering?
In July, my husband, Chris, our two girls, and I were in Wilmington visiting our family. We were staying at my in-laws’ house. Around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, I woke from a nightmare. I prayed and God brought a scripture to mind that comforted me, and I was able to go back to sleep. When I got out of bed later that morning, for the first time in two months, there was no pain in the back of my head—none. It was gone…suddenly…and it has not returned.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He did countless miracles in the Bible, curing people of all kinds of diseases and setting others free from oppression. God is still in the business of deliverance today. Twenty-one days after Hannah told me: “God is healing your headaches,” He did just that.
